One of the simplest ways to experience self-hypnosis is to systematically tense and relax the various muscles of the body to differentiate and control these responses. The first exercise we learn takes advantage of the dynamics of muscle tension and relaxation and is particularly suitable for combating anxiety because it helps to promote a state of calm and tranquility.
As you practice this exercise, be sure to keep your lips slightly pursed. You should also maintain deep, rhythmic breathing. Support your head, perhaps with a pillow, without it being able to rock back and forth.
